Sunshine Behind the Storm #5: God's Glory

It's been a while since I've posted for the Sunshine Behind the Storm series, so I am happy to share this book excerpt of  Jonathan Edwards that Kerry Benge finds really encouraging when going through hard times: to look at the Lord's attributes and character, and rejoicing in His glory, no matter what the trials are. Kerry Benge blogs over at Studies in the Scriptures  which has some really great articles such as this one, so go check it out. :) Thanks heaps for sharing, Kerry! :)

"God glorifies himself to the creatures in two ways:

(1) By appearing to their understanding,
(2) and in communicating himself to their hearts,

and in their rejoicing and delighting and enjoying the manifestations he makes of himself. God is glorified not only in his glory being seen but in its being rejoiced in. When those that see it delight in it God is more glorified than if they only see it. His glory is then received by the whole soul both by the understanding and the heart. He that testifies of this idea, that is his seeing of God's glory, doesn't glorify God so much as he that testifies of his approbation, that is in his approval of it and delight in it." ~ Jonathan Edwards, "Miscellanies," in the Works of Jonathan Edwards

God bless!
